The Shangri-La arrives on the lush and beautiful jungle world of Archon Ren. There they plan to do what it takes to uncover the truth behind the accusations surrounding Captain Arleigh Mitchell. They meet with Despot Trel Saraq, a xxcha noble assigned to organize Mitchell’s trial. He informs the crew of the impending process and takes little effort to hide his certainty that the captain is guilty. However, the Despot treats the crew as honored guests, allowing them time to assemble a case to defend their position.
The crew investigate and scrutinize the evidence surrounding the murder of Chlak Zshar. At the forefront of the evidence the prosecution had gathered was the DNA samples found at the scene of the crime that matched the captain perfectly. Beyond that however, the crew discovered a cred stick at the scene of the crime belonging to a xxcha name Cor Dansu. When approached, Cor explained that she had given the creds to a wandering vagabond who had come to Ren to find someone. She said the man was sick and possible mentally unstable, and had given him the money in hopes he would find help.
After several conversations with Mitchell regarding his involvement with Chlak, who’s recent history was as mysterious as his own, a startling truth was revealed. The man who killed Chlak Zshar was a clone of Arleigh Mitchell, something the captain had already anticipated. It was clear that was much more to the story than Arleigh was willing to part with. But the circumstance of the events still haunted the captain. Why was the clone here, and why did he kill Chlak? In brash effort to buy the time they needed to investigate further, Mitchell enacted a sacred xxcha rite of judgement. If the captain did not return to Archon Ren within the alloted time, then his life would be forfeit.
So the Shangri-La left Archon Ren and followed the breadcrumbs picked up from the investigation. They set course for Sumerian, in the Arcturus System. However, before reaching their first jump relay, the crew was sidetracked by a quarrel with some ravenous pirates over a stranded and damaged ship. The crew bested the pirates and saved a single survivor from the freighter, before continuing their journey.
